Security threats! Mobile services suspended in Pakistan

The law enforcement agencies were put on high alert on Eid after Kamra attack and other sectarian attacks across country. In, Karachi, the Sindh government imposed three day ban on pillion riding due to increased incidents of target killings in last two days. 

KARACHI: Mobile Phone services have been suspended in parts of Pakistan as a security measure to avoid any untoward incident during Eid.

The government has suspended mobile phone service in sensitive areas of Lahore, Karachi and other cities in the wake of terror warning, issued by the Interior Ministry earlier in the day. 

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has confirmed that cellular phone service has been blocked across 5 major cities.

Earlier, speaking to media persons, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said the government could suspend mobile phone service due to fear of terrorist attacks. He said the request was made by the provincial governments.

He warned that terrorists could strike Karachi, Lahore and Multan.

Malik added that services in these areas could also be suspended during Eid prayersservice will remain suspended till 2pm Monday.


The social media users including politicians and celebrities heavily criticised government’s step to suspend mobile services during the eid.
